Сегодня день рождения Владимира Ленина. Человека, без которого невозможно представить сейчас историю человечества за последние сто с лишним лет.

С его именем связана величайшая в истории попытка построить справедливое общество без угнетения человека человеком. В чём-то эта попытка удалась, в чём-то нет. Следствием этой попытки стало и создание Советского Союза со всеми его достижениями (как, конечно, и неудачами), и мощь мирового левого движения в ХХ веке, и разные модели социализма (от кубинского до скандинавского) по всей планете, и сегодняшний рывок социалистического Китая к мировой супердержаве.

Нет в истории мирового левого движения: социализма, коммунизма и социал-демократии, фигуры более значимой, чем Ленин. Его жизнь, его работы, его действия и наследие помнят и изучают уже больше ста лет. И будут помнить и изучать, пока есть левое движение и люди, исповедующие левые идеи.

Today is the birthday of Vladimir Lenin. A man without whom it is impossible to imagine the history of mankind over the past hundred years.

His name is associated with the greatest attempt in history to build a just society without the oppression of man by man. In some ways, this attempt was successful, in some ways it was not. The result of this attempt was the creation of the Soviet Union with all its achievements (as well as failures, of course), and the power of the world left movement in the twentieth century, and various models of socialism (from Cuban to Scandinavian) all over the planet, and today’s socialist China’s breakthrough to world superpower.

There is no more significant figure in the history of the world left movement: socialism, communism and social democracy than Lenin. His life, his works, his actions and legacy have been remembered and studied for more than a hundred years. And they will remember and study as long as there is a leftist movement and people who profess leftist ideas.
